Doug Snow

March 31, 1927 — October 20, 2009

"Loved what he saw, Painted what he felt." Teasdale, Utah - When he departed so abruptly he left an instant, huge chasm in the lives of all who knew him, be they loved ones, close friends, fellow artists, or thousands of university students who have thanked him for expanding their talents and their lives by sharing with them his enthusiasm and devotion to art of all kinds. Doug was a dedicated and meticulous painter. He worked with equal passion on murals, illustrations, etchings and drawings. He often filled his studio with opera music or a symphony while he worked. Doug was born in Salt lake City to Vivian and Loree Forsyth Snow and had two older sisters, Elizabeth and Marilyn. His parents and two sisters all precede him in death. He attended Salt Lake City schools and the University of Utah. He was a constant reader, had a remarkable memory for the facts and details of films and plays, and welcomed a discussion on almost any subject. He enjoyed acting in plays at the University, and at one point was vocalist for a dance band at Lagoon. After graduation at the University of Utah, he studied at New York American Art School, Columbia University and Cranbrook Academy, and won a Fulbright scholarship to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Doug married artist-designer Jinny Lee Nelson and they raised three children, Penelope Harris (husband Kim), Sean Snow and Stephanie Snow. They traveled extensively and later divorced. Doug married Susan DeWitt and together made their permanent home in Teasdale, Wayne County. They raised a daughter, Felicia, now married to Casey Stewart. Doug has seven grand children, two great grand children and was preceded in death by a grandson. With Susan he treasured his many close friends in Wayne County and beyond and the frequent and varied times they spent regularly together -- from hiking, to books, to chess, to table tennis, to just talking, all of which he loved to do. It will be entirely appropriate to think of Doug whenever we are enjoying a painting, the beauty of southern Utah, an opera, or a good book. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Torrey LDS Ward Chapel in Torrey, Utah. Additional services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. in the Auditorium of the City Library, 210 East 400 South, in Salt Lake City, Utah
