Duke Brian

Loa/ West Valley City, Utah - Hyrum LeRoy (Duke) Brian, age 73, passed away January 29, 2006 in West Valley City, Utah, after fighting many illnesses. He was surrounded by his loving family until the end. Duke was born October 7, 1932 in Bicknell, Utah, a son of Arthur Dudley and Wilma Adell Larsen Brian. Duke lived in Loa until he met his loving wife, Carolynn Dorothy Mills, whom he married on February 4, 1957. They have been married for 49 years. Duke and Carolynn moved to West Valley City where they raised their three children, Greg, Gaylynn and Debbie. Duke worked on a farm for many years and then joined the army where he was called to serve in Korea and Japan. He then worked in the auto service industry and ran his own service station in Richfield and Salt Lake City, until retiring in 1977 to care for his wife, Carolynn. In 1993, Duke put aside his own life to raise three of his grandchildren after his daughter, Debbie, passed away. Duke never gave up, no matter what was thrown his way. Duke loved the outdoors and the hunts. He also enjoyed bowling with Carolynn and just having a good time with the ones he loved. Duke is survived by his wife, Carolynn of West Valley City; children: Greg Brian of West Jordan; Gaylynn and Kyle Clayson of West Valley City; Debbie (Deceased) and Joe Edwards of West Valley City; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; brothers: Dean (Deceased) and Dona Brian of Springville; Bill and Patsy Brian of Alpine; Pat and Sherrie Brian, currently serving an LDS Mission in Ohio; Dick and Patty Brian of Richfield; sisters: Anita (Deceased) and Lars Nelson of Loa; Linda (Mel, deceased) Hall of Salt Lake City; Camiel Pace of Torrey; many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Art and Wilma Brian, an infant brother, Leon; and a grandson, Kenneth Duke Heller. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2006 at 11:00A.M. in the Hunter 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, located at 3970 South 5200 West in West Valley City, where friends may call for viewing Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Grave side services and burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be Friday afternoon at approximately 4:00 P.M. in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Kasper and all the doctors at Pioneer Valley Hospital for their continued service and support; to Springer Turner Funeral Home; and all the support from the Hunter 2nd Ward.
