Edgar C. Nielsen

Edgar C. Nielsen Centerfield, Utah - Edgar Christian Nielsen, age 93, of Centerfield, died July 6, 2004 in Mayfield, Utah. He was born February 10, 1911 in Centerfield, a son of James Christian and Mary Ethel Fjeldsted Nielsen. He married Mabel Bernice Bardsley, March 3, 1931 in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, September 15, 1949. Mabel died November 26, 1974. He married Fern Anderson Malmgren, September 24, 1976 in Manti, Utah. Edgar was a member of the LDS Church. He served in the Bishopric for the Centerfield LDS Ward and on the High Council for the Gunnison LDS Stake. He was an ordinance worker at the Manti LDS Temple for many years. Edgar was a sports enthusiast. He coached the Centerfield Ward Boy’s softball teams for many years, taking them to an all-church championship. He loved working with the youth, not only in sports but as a scout master in the scouting program. Edgar earned his living as a farmer, and he also worked during the winter months in the lab at both the Centerfield and West Jordan Sugar Beet Factories. Edgar is survived by his wife, Fern; daughter: LuAnn and Jack Peterson of Centerfield; step-children: Edwin Darnel Malmgren of Plain City; Lyle Robert “Bob” Malmgren of Salina; Faye LaDawn and Bob Torgerson of Price; Ira Rodge and Carol Malmgren of Grantsville; 6 grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Margaret Nielsen. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel, a daughter, Valerie Dennison, a brother, Raymond Nielsen, and two sisters: Marjorie and Boyd Whitlock, Grace and George Jackson. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Centerfield 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Centerfield City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
