Aurora, Utah - Edith Barney Durfee, age 87, of Aurora, passed away January 27, 2010, in Richfield, Utah, surrounded by her family. She was born February 25, 1922, in Elsinore, Utah, a daughter of Don Carlos Smith Barney and Sarah Ellen Roberts Barney, both deceased. She married Verr Durfee of Aurora, June 12, 1937 in Aurora. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple, February 15, 1946. Verr passed away July 2, 1998. Edith loved music and loved to dance. She was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers and supported her children and grandchildren in everything they did. She loved to go to the Cowboy Corral in Elsinore for lunch and listen to the music. Edith was a real “Go-Getter.” She was very strong willed and never gave up through her illnesses. She battled cancer, two broken hips, broken shoulder, broken foot and ankle, and fought hard to overcome the obstacles. She was admired by everyone that knew her for her dedication and determination. Edith is a past employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Richfield where she cooked. She also cooked at various local restaurants. She served in many positions in the LDS Church, including Primary teacher; Secretary, Counselor, and President of the MIA; and Ward and Stake Attendance Secretary. She was a worker in the Manti LDS Temple for 16 years. Mrs. Durfee’s hobbies include cooking, hunting, fishing, flower gardening, and being with her family. She is survived by six of her eight children: VerrDon (Suzanne) Durfee, Elsinore; Bardett (Maxine) Durfee, Monroe; Rhett (Elaine) Durfee, Springville; Vicky Barney, Aurora; Monica (Max) Anderson, Richfield; Kim (Karen) Durfee, Sandy. Dick Neztsosie of New Mexico is a foster son. She has 20 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. A son, Dave Durfee, and a daughter, Leslie Durfee died as infants. She is preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers: Lucinda Barney, Rinda Barney, Renona Barney; Leland Barney, Alvin Barney, Loid Barney, Carlos Smith Barney, Delbert Barney and an infant brother; two grandsons, David Bardett Durfee, Shawn Durfee and a granddaughter, Dallas Durfee. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. in the Aurora 2nd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the church in Aurora, Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
