Aurora, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Elaine Draper Bastian, age 91, of Aurora, died August 1, 2008 in Washington, Utah. She was born November 25, 1916 in Redmond, Utah, a daughter of Rasbel William and Clara Hannah Green Draper. She graduated from North Sevier High School in Salina as valedictorian of her class and continued to love to read and learn even after her eyesight was so bad that she had to use a magnifying glass. Elaine married Ernest Bastian, June 22, 1936 in the Manti LDS Temple. That day, they moved into the home they have lived in together for 72 years. They celebrated 72 years of matrimonial bliss, June 22, 2008, one week before Ernie died on June 27, 2008. Elaine was a beautiful seamstress and sewed many of her children’s clothes as they grew up. She was a wonderful cook and made wedding cakes for many of the Aurora brides. She did beautiful quilting, knitting and crocheting, and made each of her grandchildren an afghan for their high school graduation. Elaine loved flowers and gardening. She always had flowers all around her house and this is the first year for 72 years there hasn’t been a garden behind their home to share with all they knew. Elaine also loved working in the church. She worked in the MIA for many years and then served as Primary and Relief Society Presidents, and has been a visiting teacher for many years. Ernest and Elaine served a mission together in England and upon their return home, worked as ordinance workers in the Manti LDS Temple for 14 years. She is survived by her children: Tonyia Jensen, Marsha and Kim Hamlin, all of St. George; VerLynn K. (Blaine, deceased) Johnson of Sandy, Russell and Kathy Bastian, Tim and Doris Bastian, all of Aurora; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eloise Joy and Fred Carmody of California. They have a grand posterity and love each and every one of them. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie D. Bastian; a grandson, Jared Bastian; her parents, Rasbel W. And Clara Green Draper; her husband, Ernest; brothers: Wells Ray Draper and Lazon “Duke” Draper. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 12 Noon in the Aurora 1st LDS Ward Chapel, located at 85 North Main Street in Aurora.
