Torrey, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Elaine Okerlund Curtis Chesnut, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2016 at her home in Torrey. She was born November 5, 1932 in Lyman, a daughter of Rulon Ole and Zelda Sophia Albrecht Okerlund. She attended Wayne High School and graduated in the Class of 1950. She then attended Snow College for two years. Elaine married McLloyd Curtis in Las Vegas, Nevada and they had one son together. McLloyd died in 1959. She then married Max Jay Chesnut, a widower with four children, August 23, 1963 in Las Vegas. Together they had two more children and blended a yours, mine and ours family. Jay died March 16, 1999. Elaine was a member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings throughout her lifetime. She served as Torrey Town Secretary for 19 years and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Radair. Elaine loved gardening and being out in the yard. She loved to cook, and worked as a cook for the school lunch program for the Wayne School District for 28 years. She loved to take afternoon rides to get a cold coke. She enjoyed genealogy. Elaine loved to visit with anyone, especially if they would join her on her front porch. She never minced words and you always knew right where you stood with Elaine. She enjoyed hot sun shiny days in the summer and the only thing she liked about winter was a big fire in the fireplace, all winter long. Elaine loved her grandkids and great-grandkids. She often said that they were the reason she went on living. She will be greatly missed. Elaine is survived by her children: Maxine White of North Platte, Nebraska; Judy and Rick Iams of Ogden; Buttons and Marion Chappell of Lyman; Mack Curtis of Torrey; Noreen and Bruce Johnson of Bicknell; Scott and Tracy Chesnut of Torrey; 17 grandchildren; 28 grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clenn and Evelyn Okerlund of Lyman.
