Elliott Yazzie

July 9, 1957 — March 18, 2015

Monroe, Utah - Our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Elliott Yazzie, age 57, of Monroe, was called back to reunite with his wife, in Heaven on Wednesday night, March 18, 2015 in ST. George, Utah, with his daughter at his side. Elliott was born July 9, 1957 in Richfield, Utah, a son of Fred and Julia Timican Yazzie. At the age of 5, Elliott and his brother, Rick, went to live with Keith and Lovina Sorensen in Magna, Utah, where he lived until he turned 18. He then returned home to Kiabab, Arizona to live with his mother and step-father, Julia and Willis Mayo. He later returned to Richfield where he lived for years, while re attended the Sevier Valley Technical College to further his education. He relocated to Chester, Utah with his then wife, Karen Ann Kanosh (whom he later divorced), where he worked as a coalminer for SUFCO and Skyline Mines, but later retired. He was then reunited with the love of his life, Georgenia Lee Kanosh and married her on June 27, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Richfield and later moved to Monroe. In 2000, Elliott was elected as the Koosharem Band Chairman. While being Chairman, he did many things. The major accomplishment was the Koosharem Band R.V. Park and Campground, "Water Clover" on the Koosharem Reservoir in 2013. Elliott's hobbies and favorite past times included playing softball, camping, fishing, hunting, riding 4-wheelers and going to concerts, but most of all, hitting Vegas!!! He was also a hugh Ozzy Osbourne fan. He is survived by his foster-parents: Keith and Lovina Sorensen of Tooele; his four daughters: Hope Kanosh of Cedar City; Keisha Allen and Asia Giles, both of Richfield and Danielle Giles of Joseph; 14 grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers: Jolene Yazzie of St. George; Niera and Mike Gill of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Tina and Jim Langston of Tooele; Scott and Jennifer Sorensen of Spring City; Rick and Jayelyne Yazzie of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by parents, Fred Yazzie, Julia and Willis Mayo; a daughter, Marcie Ann Charles; siblings: Bobby Yazzie, Bessie Yazzie, Betty Jean Yazzie, Wilma Mayo White; Debra Ann Yazzie-Levi, Fredena Yazzie, Darlene Mayo, Maxine Mayo, and Alan Sorensen; and two nephews: Timothy Castro and Kaizin Attakai. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 12 Noon in the Koosharem Band of Paiutes Building, 800 North 100 East in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will take place at a later date in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
