Torrey – Our special husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great grandfather, brother and friend Elmer Jackson Peterson, age 94, from Lyman, Caineville, and later, Torrey, Utah died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Loa, Utah. He was born October 20, 1915 in Manti, Utah to Thorvald and Sarah Ella Jackson Peterson (both deceased). He has four sisters and one brother: Madonna Hunt of Torrey; Luzon Truman of Enterprise; Wahnetta Simons of Mt. Pleasant; Edmond, Peterson (deceased), Susan Peterson Martinez (deceased). He had four half sisters, and six half brothers all deceased: Leah Olivia, Kate and Emma Ruella Peterson; Irene Evelin Peterson Paulsen; Clarence, Thorvald, Lawrence Thorvald, Harold Wendell, Edgar Victor, and Erven Peterson. On September 23, 1940 Elmer married Opal Lotita Peterson. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in July, 1968. Opal passed away April 23, 1972.They had seven children: Hope Hartman of Caineville; Barbara and (Dean Reed) Monson of Hurricane; Jim Clark (deceased); Lorna and (Ernest) Bastian of Green River; Jack and (Christy) Peterson of Caineville; Jill and (Terry) Jackson of Bicknell; George and (Joyce) Peterson, Hanksville. On August 31, 1974, Elmer married Lenore Hunt Peterson in the Manti Utah temple. Step children: Patsy and (Kay) Anderson of Erda; Tom and (Charlotte) Hunt, Torrey; Richard and (Rosalie) Hunt of St. George. Elmer was a mine mechanic and farmer. In his younger years, he liked to go fishing and camping. In his later years, he enjoyed being around his family, kicking back in his easy chair, watching western movies on television, and reminiscing about the “good old days”. He also enjoyed reciting cowboy poetry and funny poems and stories. Elmer was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Torrey Ward Chapel. Viewing will be from 11 – 12:30 with the funeral services at 1:00. A luncheon will be served by the Relief Society immediately following services. Burial will be in the Caineville Cemetery at 5:00 p.m. under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
