Erma Pickett

January 16, 1905 — March 1, 2007

Gunnison, Utah - Erma Olsen Pickett, age 102, died March 1, 2007 in Gunnison. She was born January 16, 1905 in Manti, Utah, a daughter of Louis Christian and Pheabe Ann Mackey Olsen. She graduated from Manti High School. She married Merrill Pickett April 28, 1926 in the Manti LDS Temple. He died May 7, 1980. Erma was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as Relief Society President, Stake Sunday School Secretary, teacher in the Primary, Relief Society, MIA and Sunday School. She was a Visiting Teacher and Coordinator. Erma and Merrill served two full time missions to the Southwest Indian Mission and served as Ordinance Workers for 14 years at the Manti Temple. Her testimony of the gospel was shared with many and she taught the gospel to her family. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Erma loved flowers and kept a very attractive yard with flowers of many varietites. She also grew a productive vegetable garden. Erma made many quilts and enjoyed other handicrafts. She was an excellent cook and home maker. Erma is survived by her children: Louis Monte and Willy Pickett of South Jordan; Nada Ann and Sterling Stillman of Riverton; Phyllis and Lee Jensen of Redmond; Kirby Elliot and Gerogeana Pickett of Gunnison; 27 grandchildren 87 great-grandchildren. Her total posterity is over 200. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; all of her brothers and sisters; a daughter, Norma and her husband, Douglas Jensen; and a son Merrill Jerry Pickett. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Home Health, Hospice, and the Gunnison Valley Hospital and to Dr. Jan Christensen. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or again Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
