Ernest Bastian

Aurora, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Ernest Bastian, age 96, of Aurora, died June 27, 2008 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born June 22, 1912 in Vermillion, Utah, a son of Ludvig Alminda and Dorthea Elenora Hannig Bastian. He graduated from North Sevier High School in Salina. He married Elaine Draper, June 22, 1936 in the Manti LDS Temple. They celebrated 72 years of matrimonial bliss last Sunday, June 22. Ernest was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric, High Councilman andTemple worker for 14 years. Ernest and Elaine served an LDS Mission to England. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, he enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing with his grandchildren and taking care of his cattle. Elaine and Ernest lived in their own home in Aurora until three months ago, when they needed more help because of their failing health. He is survived by his wife of Aurora; children: Tonyia Jensen, Marsha and Kim Hamlin, all of St. George; Lynn K. (Blaine, deceased) Johnson of Sandy; Russell and Kathy Bastian, Tim and Doris Bastian, all of Aurora; 25 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Peterson of St. George. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephani D. Bastian; a grandson, Jared Bastian; his parents and all of his brothers and sisters, excepting one, Irene. Funeral services will be held Wesdnesday, July 2, 2008 at 12 Noon in the Aurora 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 85 North Main Street in Aurora. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Aurora, Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
