Etta M. Nelson

Loa, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Etta Maxfield Nelson, age 92, passed peacefully away on August 12, 2014 in Loa. She was born April 8, 1922 in Lyman, Utah, a daughter of Nathan Grant and Delta Okerlund Maxfield. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1940. She married William Kirk Nelson, September 30, 1941 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in July of 1942. Kirk died August 19, 1980. Etta was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Relief Society Presidency; in the Stake Young Women's Program; Primary and Name Extraction Program. She served her community as Judge of Elections and Registrar of Voters for Wayne County. After Kirk's untimely death in 1980, Etta worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Loa for many years. Etta enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, embroidery work, hunting arrowheads and playing family games. She loved the mountains, cooking, gardening, fishing, canning and was a very hard worker. She loved people and she loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She is survived by her daughters: Charlene Nelson of Springville; Janice and Tony LaVoie of Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandchildren: Zachary Ellsworth and Karina Ellsworth, both of Salt Lake City; a sister, LaRee and Clifford Olsen of Loa; a brother, Ole Leo Maxfield of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her siblings: LaMar and Edna Maxfield; Erma and Lloyd Chappell; Doyle and EulaLee Maxfield; LaVee and Kay McKinlay; Ann and Lell Heaps; and a sister-in-law: Arlene Maxfield. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lyman Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
