Salina, Utah - Dr. West came in horse and buggy to bring Eva Osborn into the world on April 17, 1914. Welcoming their first born was her mother, Joyce Heath Osborn and her father, Robert Leroy Osborn. They were two conscientious Pioneers of Salina, Utah. Eva's mother was a real Cowgirl, wearing long skort, cowgirl hat and packing a Pistol to ward off predators that threatened their cattle and sheep in the early days. Three of her ten siblings were born in dugouts on Gooseberry Mountain, so Eva was born of sturdy stock, herself. Eva grew up in a house that surrounded the log cabin her father built on the farm on 300 North and 400 West, and across from her Mother's home, built the same way. Her first and only sister, Ada was born 17 months later on September 9, 1915. They were always very close in age and heart and would raise their families side by side in Los Angeles, California. Three wonderful brothers that she adored were born: Dan, born January 14, 1917, Rex followed, then brother Lee, who died at the age of 17 of a heart ailment. They were a very close family, working together on the farm and caring about those around them. Both Dan and Rex served our County during World War II. We owe them and Ada's son, Charles, a great debt of gratitude for fighting for freedom and opportunity in this country. Charles served in Korea. Eva and Ada received their early education in Miss Mary's School, a former Presbyterian Church, in Salina. After graduating from North Sevier High School, Eva met a C.C. Boy, William "Bill" Roy Patterson from Los Angeles, California. He was working in Salina. They fell in love. Eva moved to L.A. and married Bill, building a happy life. Their beautiful daughter, Joyce Osborn, was born January 26, 1941. She was their pride and joy. Eva's sister, Ada, met Red Crawford from Los Angeles. They too were married and were blessed with a son, Charles and a lovely daughter, Patricia "Nan" Crawford. Eva's Joyce was very close to these wonderful cousins, growing up. They would bless Eva's life all her days. Sadly, Eva's father, Robert, passed away on March 7, 1928 at the age of 60. He was born November 1, 1888. The years evolved, mostly happily. However on December 12, 1967, Eva's husband, Bill, died in Los Angeles. He was only 68 years old, but the family pulled together. Joyce met and married Tom Smith and embarked on a successful career, but was never able to have children. Eva's mother, Joyce Osborn, married a second time to Charlie Fergeson, a kind, railroad man, who had a connection to Salina. Her health began to fail, so Eva moved back to Salina early in 1984 to care for her in their original home. December 23, 1984, Joyce passed away at the age of 92. A valiant mother went home and her loving daughter, Eva carried on good works with family, neighbors and cousins. In 1997, Eva's daughter came down with a debilitating diseases and was brought to Salina so Eva could tenderly care for her in her valiant last days. She died July 2, 1998. Eva learned tatting, quilting and cooking arts and skills. She used them and family history and family ties to bless many family members and encourage closeness among extended family. Letters and cards were sent and received often. Eva loved to garden and do yard work. She was an outdoor girl and took up fishing again with her "fishing buddy" girlfriend. Eva's brother, Dan and his wife, Alice, lived next door to Eva and were a big help always and they did many things together. When they moved to Overton, Nevada, in about 2004, Eva began to have some health problems. Friends took her to Gunnison Hospital where she was stabilized and spent the next 4 years at the Mayfield Manor and then in 2008 she moved to their new facility, the Community Living Center in Centerfield. In both places she thrived with tender loving care from staff and family, as well as friends and relatives who visited her. Charles and Joan faithfully cared for her needs over the years, coming yearly from California to do so. Eva gave back daily with her loving, happy, upbeat ways. She lifted those around her, the Staff and the residents, and those who visited her. Eva passed through the veil on May 25, 2013. She will be missed greatly. We rejoice in her reunion with her loving family and friends,, including her Savior, Jesus Christ. We will "carry on" with meaningful purpose and gratitude, until we can be together again, following her fine example. Eva is survived by her sister, Ada Patterson Crawford, age 97, of Sacramento, California; nephew: Charles and his wife, Joan Crawford and their wonderful family, all of Sacramento; niece: Patricia "Nan" and Richard Furbish; cousins: Doug and Barta Heath, Ted and Valerie Heath, and their families of Salina; a son-in-law: Tom Smith and his wife, Sylvia of Woodvill, Texas; and cousin, Joy Heath of Richfield.
