Evelyn S. Jacobsen

Evelyn S. Jacobsen Springville/Salina, Utah - Eva Evelyn Sorenson Jacobsen , a most elect lady, left us Tuesday morning, 18 November 2003 at the age of 89 in Springville, Utah. She was born 23 October 1914 in Ephriam, Utah, a daughter of Parley Edvin and Sarah Augusta Stevens Sorenson. She was raised and educated in Ephraim. She graduated from Ephriam High School, Snow College and Brigham Young University. Evelyn married Max Jones, 1 July 1939 in the Manti LDS Temple and they were later divorced. She married Irvin Lewis (Kelly) Jacobsen, 21 October 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised their family in Salina, Utah for 42 years, before moving to Springville in 1985. Kelly passed away 19 January 1993. Evelyn used her beautiful voice to bring comfort, joy and happiness to all who heard her. She sang with Florence Jepperson Madsen as she attended BYU, working in the Madsen home to pay for her music lessons. She participated in many operettas at Snow College and BYU, entertaining for church and civic functions. She served faithfully in her Stake Singing Mothers Chorus and in recent years, shared the privilege of singing with her daughter in the Springville Musettes Women’s Chorus. She sang in funerals, too numerous to count. Evelyn was an excellent school teacher, having taught in Layton, Emery, Gunnison and Salina Elementary Schools. She even tutored some of her great-grandchildren with their homework, as they would come to “Grandmama’s” after school. She served as leader or teacher in all auxiliaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved Family History. She researched it, taught it in church, did extractions for the Church, and prepared and did Temple Work, faithfully. Evelyn was best at being an outstanding example and teacher to her three children. Being a mother was her greatest calling in life. She is survived by her three children: Max S. and Carol Jean Jacobsen, Salina; Carol Ann and Alan L. Curtis, Springville; Irvin Kent and Carolyn Marie Jacobsen, Alfred, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Hawkins, Benjamin, UT. She was preceded in death by Kelly, her husband of 51 years; five infant siblings: Mary Mildred, Charles Edvin, Anna, Glade, Parley Rex and a cousin Jewel Stevens, who was raised as a brother when his mother died in childbirth. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 22 November 2003 at 11:00 A.M. in the Springville 3rd LDS Ward Chapel, located at 355 East Center Street in Springville, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ephraim Park Cemetery in Ephraim, Utah under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
