Fern Holt Baker

September 19, 1913 — February 9, 2011

Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Fern Holt Baker, known to us all as “Sassy”, age 97, died February 9, 2011 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born September 19, 1913 in Torrey, Utah, a daughter of Leo Rolando and Anna Lorena Smith Holt. She married Reed Charles Baker, February 2, 1931 in Torrey, Utah. He died May 24, 1990. She was a member of the LDS Church. In her early years, she worked with her husband, Reed, at the plainer in Bicknell for many years. Fern enjoyed cooking, especially pies and sharing them with everyone and passing out candy to the neighborhood kids. She loved to sing and play the banjo, drums and violin. She enjoyed gardening. She loved to take walks and either walked or rode the bus everywhere she went, until the age of 94. She lived alone after the death of her beloved husband, up until the day she died. She will be missed and remembered by her family and friends. She is survived by her children: Sharla and Lawrence Harrison of Bountiful; Martin Reed and Reina Baker of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Holt Baker; a daughter, Gwenn Ekker; a grandson, Evan Ekker; six sisters and two brothers: Myrtle Holt, Leona Carroll, Ruby Stewart, Irene Busenbark, Thelma Hickman, Lavee Turner, Leo Holt and Claud Holt. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Rose Park LDS Stake Center, 760 North 1200 West in Salt Lake City, where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Grave side services and burial will be Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in the Bicknell Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell, Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
