Centerfield, Utah - Fern Anderson Malmgren Nielsen, age 96, passed away June 4, 2009 in Price, Utah, with her daughter, Faye, by her side. She was born June 29, 1912 in Redmond, Utah, a daughter of Melvin Wallace and Ludell Tollestrup Anderson. She married Edwin Lawrence Malmgren April 3, 1931 in Junction, Utah. He died September 16, 1958. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She married Edgar Christian Nielsen, September 24, 1976 in Manti, Utah. He died July 6, 2004. Fern raised her family in Centerfield where she worked side by side with her husband, Edwin, in the Honey Bee business, farming and cattle raising business. She worked at Christensen’s Clothing Store in Gunnison for many years, and she also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Braithwaite. Fern was an active member of the LDS Church where she fulfilled many callings in Primary and Relief Society. She was also a Temple worker along with her husband, Edgar, at the Manti Temple for a number of years. She enjoyed quilting, working in her flower gardens, canning fruits and vegetables and spending time camping. She also enjoyed and was very gifted at writing poems and tributes to many people. She had many friends and loved to entertain them at her home. Fern was dedicated to her family which she loved and treasured more than anything else, and in return, they loved and treasured her. She is survived by her children: Edwin Darnel and Janet Malmgren of Plain City; Bob and Connie Malmgren of Salina; Faye and Robert Torgerson of Price; Ira Malmgren of Grantsville; 28 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; 76 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Dick Anderson of Murray; Bernice Wood and Jay Anderson, both of Salina; Marva Daniels of Eloy, Arizona; Vivian and Don Larsen of Sterling; Dellene and Blaine Allred of Erda. She was preceded in death by two daughters-in-law: Carol Malmgren and Berva Dawn Malmgren; 2 granddaughters; 3 great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Austin Melvin Anderson, Don Wallace Anderson, Niel Christian Anderson and Fay Anderson. Fern resided the past 3 years at an assisted living center, Heirloom Inn, in Price, Utah, close to her daughter, Fay. The family would like to extend gratitude for their expert care that was given to Fern. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 12 Noon in the Centerfield LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Centerfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
