Forrest H. Adison

Richfield, Utah - Our kind and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Forrest Herman Adison, age 80, died April 20, 2014 at his home in Richfield, after a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born February 15, 1934 in Shonto, Arizona, a son of Fred and Mae Calamity Adson, born to LoK'aa (Reed People Clan) for Tobaaha (Edge Water People Clan). He attended the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon, graduating in 1954. He served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. Forrest married Esther Jones, July 27, 1957 in Salem, Oregon. She died January 7, 1999. Forrest has been living in Richfield since 1968. He worked for Boeing Aircraft, Bureau of Indian Affairs as an Instructional Aide, at Chemawa Indian School, Magdelena Dormitory and the Richfield Dormitory. He was involved with student activities such as camping, hiking, cook-outs, field trips and starting a rodeo club, mentoring and building skills and fundamentals in the sport of Rodeoing and Roping, competing locally and in the Western States. Practicing was an important part of roping. Everyone was welcomed to practice with him or learn from him and use his horses, ropes, cattle, whatever he had. He loved his horses and cats. Forrest loved teaching young people the art of leather craft and silversmithing, as well as roping. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all their accomplishments and activities by attending and supporting them. He loved his family, relatives and friends and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children: Forrest H. and Rita Adison, Jr. of Castle Dale, Utah; Ernestine J. and Donald Crank of Payson, Arizona; Sylvia J. and Steve Nielsen of Monroe, Utah; Sophie Z. Adison and Eugenia A. Adison, both of Richfield; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother: Grace Yazzie, Alice Adson, Russell and Julia Adson, all of Shonto, Arizona; Ruth and Sam Yazzie of Sanders, Arizona; Emma and Larry Watts of Fort Defiance, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; parents, Fred and Mae Adson; two sisters and two brothers: Helen Herder, Rose Adson, Mike Adson and David Adson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 12 Noon in the Richfield 1st LDS Ward Chapel, 985 South 400 West in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
