Gae Nelson Mangrum passed away peacefully surrounded by family from complication of Covid on July 9, 2024. Gae was born March 11th, 1931 in Redmond Utah to Tilman and Bessie Powell Nelson.
She grew up in Redmond and was blessed with 2 sisters. Nadine and Marilyn. Her father, Tilman Nelson passed away from a ruptured appendix in December 1939.
Her mother later worked at the parachute factory in Manti and Gae tended her little sisters while her mother worked.
Her mother Bessie married Joseph Curtis in 1943. Gae was blessed with two step siblings, Ivo Curtis and Colleen Curtis Nielsen.
Gae attended grade school in Redmond and attended junior high and high school in Salina. She graduated from North Sevier High School in 1949. She absolutely loved learning and was a lifelong learner.
She met Dale Ross Mangrum at a dance in March of 1949. They were married in Aurora, Utah on July 24, 1949. They moved to Toole, Utah where Dale worked at the army depot. They moved to Salina and then Aurora early in their marriage. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti, Utah temple on May 12, 1953. They were blessed with three children. Ross was born in 1951. Jill was born in 1954 and Keith was born in 1961. They lived in several different states during their marriage. Dale’s work took them to Babbitt, Nevada; twice to Lovell Wyoming twice to Cold Springs, New York and to Santa Fe, New Mexico. They relocated to West Jordan, Utah in November 1982 to be closer to family. They became members of the Westland 7th Ward. They loved their ward family. They were well loved and looked after by them. She always said they were her sons and daughters. Dale preceded her in death July 24, 2012.
Gae was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many different positions and loved teaching youth and children. She had a strong testimony and loved the Lord.
Gae worked as a bookkeeper, secretary, telephone operator and at Morris travel for many years. She loved camping, gardening, sewing, cooking, quilting and baking in her younger years. She enjoyed puzzles, history and educational channels, crocheting and travel.
She lived at Courtyard at Jamestown the last 23 months. She loved her wonderful caregivers and called them her children and grandchildren. They went above and beyond to show her love and gave her excellent care. The staff of A1 Hospice took excellent care of Mom. Carol, her RN, was an angel and the two of them loved each other so much. The family is extremely grateful for such caring angels.
Gae is survived by her children: Jill (Blake) Nielsen of Orem, Utah; Keith Mangrum of Lovell, Wyoming; daughter-in-law Wynnona Mangrum of Aurora, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 36 Great Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband Dale; and a son Ross.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 12 Noon in the Redmond Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
