Fremont, Utah - Our kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Edward Garn Jeffery, age 81, of Fremont, died July 20, 2008 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born December 22, 1926 in Salina, Utah, a son of Alfred Barney and Thelma Okerlund Jeffery. Garn graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1946. He married Colleen Tanner, August 3, 1947 in Fremont, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple November 23, 1957. Garn was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various positions, including Bishop of the Fremont Ward from 1979 to 1982. Garn was an ambitious, hard working man. He was one of the builders of the Mill Meadow Reservoir Dam in his early years and went on to become a superintendent for L.A. Young’s Construction Company for 30 years. He was Superintendent of the Year in 1984 when he was responsible for the job that raised I-80 up 8 feet across the Great Salt Lake. He bought his first farm, the Jake Place, and his first cows in 1957. One of the first things he did was to give each of his three kids a cow of their own. After retiring in 1989, he came home to Fremont and worked with his sons and grandsons on Jeffery Ranch, Inc. He was still supervising the daily work until a month before his death. The greatest joy of his life was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The daily travels of his white Ford pick-up as he checked on the farms while taking his Sweetheart, Colleen, for a ride, will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Colleen T. Jeffery of Fremont; children: Jessie J. and Phillip Pace of Torrey; Thomas A. and Virginia Jeffery, Michael G. Jeffery, all of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters: Lois Thalman of Sigurd, LaRee and Norman Huntsman of Orem. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Barney Jeffery; and a grandson, William (Billy) Bruce Jeffery. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Fremont, Friday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services.
