Gary Hunt

Torrey, Utah - Cleland Gary Hunt, age 55, of Torrey, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009, doing what he enjoyed, fishing on Boulder Mountain with his brother, Stanley and a best friend, Pete Daniels. He died of complications from an injury he received in an automobile accident in 2004. Gary was born September 10, 1954 in Richfield, Utah, a son of Charles Cleland and Madonna Peterson Hunt. He graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1972. He served his country during the Viet Nam Conflict at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri in the US Army. He was a member of the LDS Church. Gary enjoyed designing and making wood furniture, working as a carpenter and helping others. He grew up helping his father log on Boulder Mountain and operated the Hunt Sawmill. He worked as a carpenter and painter, most recently painting water tanks in various states. Gary was instrumental in refurbishing the “Big Apple Dance Hall” on Torrey’s main street, when it first came back to life in the late 1980's. He is survived by his mother of Torrey; brothers and sisters: Stanley and Sandra Hunt of Loa; Priscilla and Carl Reichert of Mesa, Arizona; Deanna and Jerry LeFevre of Panguitch; Monty and Beva Hunt of West Valley City; Donita and Jeff Pace of Torrey; Brenda and Shannon Davis of Ivins; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Torrey LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Torrey Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
