Lyman, Utah - Our kind and beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Eugene Allen, age 83, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, February 21, 2009 from a massive stroke in Richfield, Utah. He was born 1925 in Lyman, Utah, a son of Samuel Fay and Helen Amelia Oldroyd Allen. Gene graduated from Wayne High School. He spent many years herding sheep for his father as a youngster. In 1945 he was drafted in the US Army, where he served in the Philippines for over two years. Upon returning home Gene married his sweetheart, Shirley Joy Brown, October 3, 1949 in the Manti LDS Temple. She died July 25, 2006. Gene and Shirley started their lives together on the ranch outside of Lyman. They later moved to Henderson, Nevada and then returned to Lyman, where they spent their lives farming and ranching Horse Valley. Eugene was a source of strength and inspiration to everyone in his life. He knew the value of hard work and passed that trait onto his family. He enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren provided joy and laughter to his life, especially while giving them rides on his motorcycle. In more recent years, his favorite past time was fishing with his good friends. Gene kept everything in a well organized manner including his farm, yards and home. He was a very honest man in all aspects of his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Gene is survived by his children: Carol Jean and Cary Meinhardt of Delta; Robert David "Bob" Allen, deceased; Colleen Brinkerhoff of Bicknell; Randall Eugene Allen of Central Valley; 10 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Archie Allen of California; Leland and RonaLee Allen of Granger; Fay O. (Deceased) and Gwen Allen of Salt Lake City; Maurine and Brent Morrell, both deceased; and Myrle Kendall of Provo.
