George A Nielson

Salina/Richfield, Utah - George Nielson, age 51, died at his home in Salina, unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 1, 2010. He was born September 7, 1958 in Salt Lake City, a son of Donna Lorraine Hale. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Bryce Nielson, whose name he took in his teens. George married Maurine Crow, December 9, 1977. They were married for 27 years before divorcing. They had two children together, Lance Nielson and Heather Nielson Schlapfer. George served in the Utah National Guard for six years and received an honorable discharge in 1982. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the great outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and doing things around the yard. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. He is survived by his son and daughter: Lance and Christine Nielson of Richfield; Heather and Chad Schlapfer of Salina; grandchildren: Ryley Hales, Ross, Logan, Austin and Cameron Nielson, Austin and Kiley Schlapfer; his mother, Donna Nielson of Aurora; brothers and sisters: Mitch Nielson and Richard Nielson, both of Salina; Sandra Robbins of Salt Lake City; Dortha Mortensen of Richfield; Bryce Nielson Jr. of Layton; and Cristy Fox of Ephraim. He was preceded in death by a sister, Tonya Handy and his father, Bryce Lee Nielson, who died June 20, 2010. Because George was a simple man, there will be no funeral services, per his request. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, from 6 to 8 P.M. for friends and family to attend and pay their last respects. At his request, his remains will be cremated and burial will take place at a later date under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina,Utah.
