George L. Morrell

June 24, 1937 — August 21, 2008

Loa, Utah - Our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, George Loen Morrell, passed away August 21, 2008, at the age of 71. He lived a full life. George was born June 24, 1937 in Loa, Utah, a son of Ernest Loen and Harriet Ann Rees Morrell. He married Arda Mae Sorenson, September 14, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. George retired from the Wayne School District after 25 years of service as a teacher, basketball coach, baseball coach and Principle. After retirement, he served three terms on the Wayne District School Board and was an assistant basketball coach at Snow College in Ephraim. George enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, snowmobile riding and being a hunting guide. He had a good eye for horses. George loved his race horses and his dogs, both hunting and sheep/cow dogs. George served in the Loa Ward Bishopric as Second Counselor. He and his wife, Arda, serve in the Manti Temple until his health declined. George had many friends outside the family. Everywhere we would go, he would always see someone he knew and they would visit. He loved to travel, enjoyed all sports, and loved watching his kids and grandkids participate in all their activites. George is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Arda Mae; his children: Lynette of Loa, and Dale Johnson; Jeri (Karl) Albrecht of South Jordan; Bruce George (Natalie) Morrell of Loa; Beth (Joel) Bass of Ogden; Jody (Vijay) Kumar, of Lehi; Kade V.L. (Michelle) Morrell of Fremont; 18 ½ grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Dean (Doris) Morrell of Sandy; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loen and Harriet Morrell; a sister, Charlotte Lee and a grandson, Cody Johnson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. In the Loa LDS Stake Center. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Stake Center in Loa, Tuesday from11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
