St. George, Utah - George Phillip Larson passed away peacefully at the Richfield Care Center in Richfield, Utah on January 12, 2021 at the age of 90. George was born on October 14, 1930 in St. George, Utah to Reuben and Rose Riding Beacham Larson. He considered himself a resident of the St. George and he spent most of his life there. George was a Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1955 George married Marlene Maria Ruppert in Chippewa Falls, WI. They had 3 beautiful children: Phillip Karl, Linda Lorraine, and Laura Lee. George enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. Later, he transferred to the Navy Air Force and trained at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, TN. George received a commendation from the air force commander for his participation as a navigator during the Berlin airlift. He also saw action in the Pacific where his plane was shot down and he was the only survivor. Sadly, for the rest of his life, George battle PTSD. George’s favorite hobbies were playing the saxophone, listening to music, and oil painting. He also loved riding motorcycles. It was something he really missed as he got older. Surviving siblings are Beverly Larson of Kearns, Utah, Charles Reuben (Launa) Larson of Snowflake, Arizona, Kelvin Kent Larson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Janice Olena (Pete) Davison of Beryl, Utah, and Deborah Lee Bowler Haskins of Los Angeles, California. Preceded in death are his parents and three sisters: Baby Larson, Mary Ellen Sullivan, and Lottie Watoni Laub. A graveside service will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park at 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
