Grace K Stokes

May 29, 1919 — April 1, 2011

Bountiful/Richfield, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Grace Kendrick Stokes, age 91, passed away April 1, 2011 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born May 29, 1919 in Providence, Utah, a daughter of Ernest Henry and Elsie Barbara Naef Kendrick. She graduated from South Cache High school and attended Utah State University. Grace married Leslie Darrell Stokes, October 10, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. He died April 5, 1986. She enjoyed raising her family, while living in Salt Lake, Emery, Wasatch and Davis Counties, during which time, she made many life-long friends and influenced countless lives. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she found fulfillment serving in each of the auxiliaries, including serving as a Visiting Teacher until the age of 89. Music was a special part of her life, whether singing, accompanying, directing or teaching. Her calling to serve with her husband as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple, brought her much joy. Following her move to Richfield, she served 15 more years in the Manti LDS Temple. Grace is survived by her children: Brent D. and Colleen Stokes of Orem; Terry L. Stokes of Murray; Paul "K" and Christa Stokes of Centerville; Sheila and McKay Jenson of Richfield; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; brothers: Elton Kendrick of Twin Falls, Idaho and Ellis Kendrick of Hooper, Utah. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers: Mary and Merlin Hirst; Bert and Ruby Kendrick; Dean and Shirley Kendrick; Clarence and Dorothy Kendrick; Alda and Ray Thatcher; Eileen and Vernon Taylor and two sisters-in-law: Kalma Kendrick and AnnaLou Kendrick. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 12 Noon in the Ricks Creek LDS Ward Chapel, 1475 North 50 East in Centerville. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Creek Chapel, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive in Bountiful, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
