Harlan Kay Nielson, A.K.A. Snydley, age 66, passed away peacefully with his family by his beside on December 15, 2016 at his home in Aurora, Utah. He was born on November 8, 1950 in Provo, Utah, a son of Harlan Earl and Beryl Roper Nielson. Harlan graduated in 1969 from Orem High School where he participated in track and field and held the state record for the 400 meter for many years. He also excelled in musical theater and was the Orem Tiger mascot. He was enlisted in the Army from 1970 - 1972. In 1972 he married Gaylene Walker. Together they had two sons, Harlan Jay (Six Feet) and Jory Kay (Bacon Rhine). They later divorced, but have remained great frends. In 1985 he married Lana Tuttle. Through this marriage he gained another son, Sean, and daughter, Jacki. Together Harlan and Lana had one daughter, Shayla Kay (Bugs). They were later divorced. Harlan spent his career as an Ironworker and had many jobs that took him all over the United States. He also owned his own steel erection business for many years. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, sharing stories with family and friends, spending time in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He adored his horses and dogs who he considered best friends. Harlan had an infectious personality and made friends with anyone he met. He was a simple man who loved the simple things. His lessons and laughter will never be forgotten. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Lincare, Intermountain Healthcare, and all of the neighbors who went above and beyond to care for this great man. He is survived by his five children; Harlan Jay (Aliesha) Nielson, Jory (Traci) Nielson, Sean (Marta) Stott, Jacki (Mike) Stout, Shayla (Derek) Laub; 13 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; siblings: Mike (Lois, deceased) Nielson; Dawn (Tim) Elliott; Randy (Kathy) Nielson; Mark (Sandi) Nielson; Robert Nielson; Larry (Brenda) Nielson; Nedra (Clint) Shepard; and Nathan (Terry) Nielson. He was preceded in death by his dad, Harlan E. Nielson and mother Beryl Roper Nielson. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, Utah where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
