Harold T. Brown

March 29, 1924 — June 29, 2006

Richfield, Utah - Harold Thomas Brown was born March 29, 1924 in Loa, Utah, a son of Frederick Franklin and Lola May Wasden Brown. He peacefully passed away on June 29, 2006 at his home in Richfield. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1942 and served in the US Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. While in the army, he played the trumpet in a Dance Band. He always enjoyed good music. Harold was named after his Uncle who was killed in World War I. Following his service in the military, he married Charlene Jenson of Fremont, Utah on January 30, 1948 in the Manti LDS Temple. In 1949, Harold and his father formed Brown Builder’s Supply in Loa. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1952, with a degree in civil engineering. Harold was a member of the Loa Town Board, a member of the Richfield Kiwanis Club, a member of the Board of Directors which built the Cove View Golf Course, and owned a cattle operation from 1973 to 1981. Harold joined the Soil Conservation Service in Richfield in 1957 as an Engineering Specialist, and retired in 1984 as an Assistant State Conservationist after 32 years of Federal service. That same year, he started a new career as the Water Resources Engineer with the Utah Division of Water Resources and he wrote the Utah State Water Plan and four river basin plans. He retired in 2000 with 16 years of state service. As a member of the LDS Church, he served in the Boy Scout program, as Young Men Superintendent, Sunday School President and as a Ward Clerk for three bishoprics. Through all of Harold’s many health problems he had in his life, he was an example of strength and courage. He fought a courageous battle until the very end. Harold always enjoyed sharing stories and his life experiences with others, especially with his family. Harold is survived by his wife, Charlene of Richfield; children: Mary (Barry)Bodily, Logan; David (Shelley) Brown, Central Valley; Maxine (Deceased) Dane (Lorraine) Gregerson, Monroe; Charles (Lorie) Brown, Richfield; Ralph (Kathryn) Brown, Central Valley; Thomas (Ruthann) Brown, Richfield; 30 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother: Joyce (Deceased) (Wayne) Willis, Janice (John) Hollingshaus, Frederick Franklin (Anna Jean, deceased) Brown, all of Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. or Saturday morning one hour prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. in the Loa Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
