Richfield, Utah - Herbert Wesley Hunt, Jr. age 81, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on July 5, 2008 at his home in Richfield, Utah. He was born in Arcata, California, a son of Herbert Wesley Sr. and Jessie Frances Hunt. Herb served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. He attended and graduated from Humboldt State University and Stanford University in California. After teaching in Brookings, Oregon and Korbel, California, Herb joined and worked for the National Park Service for over 20 years, serving as Chief Ranger at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and Channel Islands National Monument. He also spent 3 years as a Park Manager for the Army Corp of Engineers and 7 years as a Recreation Planner for the US Bureau of Land Management in Fairbanks, Alaska and Richfield, Utah. Herb retired after 31½ years of Federal Services. Raised on a ranch, Herb was always a cowboy at heart. An expert marksman and avid sportsman, who loved being a pilot, our “Great White Hunter” had a witty, fun side that only those close to him got to know. Herb was a member of the Valley Community Church in Richfield. He is survived by his wife, Delphine, to whom he was happily married for 56 years; his children: Mary Morton, Carol and Neil Rickli, Herbert Terry and Anita Hunt; grandchildren: Spring and USAF Maj. Raymond Kellermann, David Rickli, Savannah Rickli, Christopher and Katie Hunt; two great-grandsons: Raymond John Kellermann and Roger Matthew Kellermann and one niece, Marta Gray. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, Utah, where friends may call for viewing Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the services. Interment will be in the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, California with full military honors and under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
