Deseret, Utah - Van J “Hoot” Warnick, age 84, died on April 13, 2009 at his home in Deseret, Utah from complications due to age. He was born November 11, 1924 in Delta, Utah, a son of Mansel Owen and Chloe Johnson Warnick. When Van was 6 years old, his mother died and then his father married Mable Desmond Crafts, whom Van always called “Mom”. Van married Carole Black on June 20, 1943 in Ely, NV. She died October 28, 2003. Dad loved life and lived each day to the fullest. He loved to be with his friends and family. There was never a dull moment when Dad was there. He was a master prankster and tease which kept everyone on their toes. He enjoyed watching sports especially if his kids or grandkids were playing. Dad loved hunting, camping, fishing and just being outdoors. From a young age, Dad had a passion for horses whether it was chasing wild mustangs, breaking colts, racing chariots and thoroughbreds or just relaxing on a trail ride. Dad was a big rodeo fan, and he never missed a rodeo. He served on the Days of the Old West Board, and was the Rodeo Grand Marshall in 2006. He was a lifetime member of the Pahvant Riding Club. Dad was very patriotic and loved his country. He served during World War II in the Pacific Islands. He was a member of the American Legion. Dad made an influence on those that knew him and will be missed greatly. He is survived by children: Marilyn and Howard Clayton, Jay and Lisa Warnick, Jim and Evelyn Warnick, LeAnn and Russ Church, all of the Delta area; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sister and brothers: Shirley Bailey, Mike Warnick and Dean Warnick. Van is preceded in death by parents; his wife, Carole; a grandson, Chet; great-granddaughter, Marie; brother, Golden; sister, Gloria. Grave side Services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Deseret Cemetery, Deseret, Utah. A viewing will be held for the family that morning at 10:00 A.M. in the Deseret LDS Ward Building. Burial with military honors accorded by the Delta American Legion Post #135 will be in the Deseret Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
