Salina, Utah - Hugh V. Bird was born November 12, 1916 in Salina, Sevier County, Utah. He is the last living of 8 children of George and Mabel Williams Bird and graduated this life with honors on November 16, 2005. He lived his entire life in Salina where he was a Teacher and Coach at North Sevier High School for 39 years. Hugh loved the outdoors, sports, his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his Church. He married Margie Williams in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 20, 1940 and was sealed in the Manti Temple on July 25, 1957. Hugh was a great athlete attending Snow College and the University of Utah and was extremely proud to be a “Runnin’ Ute.” He was a lifetime Scouter where he received the Silver Beaver Award. His Church experiences were Bishop, High Counselor, Member of the Stake Presidency, Mission President in Winnipeg, Canada, Temple worker and Sealer in the Manti Temple. His community service built ball parks, decorated Salina City for Christmas and conducted 4th of July activities with the Jaycees. He was also an active member of the Salina Lion’s Club. The trade marks of Hugh’s life were hard work, charity, integrity and a love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and those around him. His little 26 acre farm taught his children and grandchildren, the joy of work, lessons of love and the privelege of having our Dad teach us. He served with love and charity in all he did and personified “determination” in everything he did. Hugh is survived by his loving wife, Margie, of Salina; his three children: Sherrie and Larry Silcox of Tooele; Sue and Jerry Frame of Orem; Dennis and Merrily Bird of South Jordan; 16 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sister: Dallas Bird, Lee Bird, Lynn Bird, Leda Bird, Utahna Monson, Lois Hamel and Beryle Jensen. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2005 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 west 400 North in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the Stake Center Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
