Hyrum M. Thorsen

Malad City, Idaho/Salina, Utah - Hyrum Merkely Thorsen, age 83, of Malad City, Idaho and formerly of Salina, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Malad City, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 12, 1932 in Glenwood, Utah, a son of Cloyde Laphy and Nelda Merkely Thorsen. He graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1950. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 6 years. Hyrum married the love of his life, Anita Riley, May 26, 1962 in Spanish Fork, Utah. The couple lived in Salina, where they soon welcomed three children: Thomas (Tommy) Hyrum Thorsen, Tony Don Thorsen and Tracy Lynn Thorsen. Hyrum and Anita lived in Salina for fifty plus years, raising their children. They moved to Malad City, Idaho, three years ago to be closer to their daughter. Anita passed away January 13, 2013. Hyrum is survived by his children: Tony Thorsen of Provo; Tracy Lynn and Wes Tapp of Malad City, Idaho; six grandchildren: Trevon and Lisa Tapp; Owen and Lindzee Tapp, Conway Tapp, April and Brad Jones, Katie Tapp, Darren Tapp; three great-grandchildren: Trevon, Suzie and Aimzlee; brothers and sister: Neldon and Joanne Thorsen of West Valley City; Coy Taylor of Vernal; Marvan and Helen Thorsen of Washington City; sister-in-law: Jan Thorsen of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita; his oldest son, Tommy Thorsen; and three brothers: Dale Thorsen, Merlin Thorsen and Don Thorsen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
