Ivan B. Madsen

Aurora, Utah - Ivan Bert Madsen, age 82, passed away March 10, 2005, in Richfield, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 11, 1922 in Aurora, Utah, a son of George Sern and Effie Mae Mason Madsen. He married Nola V Christiansen, May 31, 1946 in Monroe, Utah, and they were married for 58 years. Ivan served his country during World War II in the US Army, 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He drove a tank from Omaha Beach to Berlin and earned a Silver and Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation. He worked for 30 years at U.S. Gypsum Plant in Sigurd, retiring to pursue some of his many hobbies, which were his horses, dogs, wood crafting, camping and four-wheeling. He was a member of the LDS Church. Ivan is survived by his loving wife, Nola, of Aurora; son, Craig and Barb Madsen of Craig, Colorado; daughters: Cathy and Greg Cooper of Layton; Patricia and Clark Jensen of Riverton; Susan and Kevin Williams of Salina; Darla and Michael Tolman of West Valley City; Carolyn and Darrell Jennings of Heber City; daughter-in-law: Barbara Madsen Grundman of Salt Lake City; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sister: Audra and Harve Oldroyd of Glenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Hal Madsen; and four siblings: Novella M. Taylor; Verla M. Jensen, Lavaun Madsen and Phillo Leon Madsen. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 14, 2005 at 12 Noon in the Aurora 1st LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
