Downers Grove, IL/ Salina, UT - Dr. James D. (Jim) Jorgensen, age 58, a native of Salina, Utah and a resident of Downers Grove, Illinois, for the past 32 years, died at his home on September 7, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 23, 1948 in Salina, Utah, a son of Grant and Nelda Breinholt Jorgensen. He married Ramona Gurr, June 6, 1970 in the Manti LDS Temple. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of thirty-six years, Ramona G. Jorgensen of Downers Grove, IL. The beautiful family they raised include Lynn and Sandy Nielson of West Valley City; Mike and Nikki Nielson of Wichita, Kansas; Kathy and Dan Brimhall of Gilbert, Arizona; Kristy and Trevor Steenblik of Layton; Scott and Sarah Nielson of Snowflake, Arizona; Karen and Mike Russell of Lehi. Seventeen granchildren will remember their grandfather with love and respect. His family will miss his wisdom and counsel, the assurance of his positive attitude, his sense of humor and most of all, his love. Jim was a Senior Scientist at Argonne National Laboratories, and the influence of his work will be felt for generations. He traveled extensively to many parts of the world to share his findings with the global scientific community. Publications of his work are widely read and studied in print, as well as on the internet. He was a dedicated member of the LDS Church and served as Bishop, Stake President and in many other callings. He was true to himself, his family and his faith throughout his life. He showed us the way and left a pattern to follow. In addition to his immediate family, survivors include two brothers: Jerry and GayLynn Jorgensen of Lewiston, Utah, Bruce and Donna Jorgensen of Provo; numerous nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jason. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 12 Noon in the Salina 2nd and 3rd Ward Chapel, 87 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
