James R. Stephenson Bicknell, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, dad, gramp and brother, James Riley “Jim” Stephenson, age 73, died July 29, 2003 at his home in Bicknell. He was born March 1, 1930 in Loa, Utah, a son of Riley and Elia Burl Potter Stephenson. He graduated from Cedar City High School, Class of 1948. He served during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. Jim married Lewellyn Brown, November 20, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He worked for Garrett Freightlines in Salt Lake City for 37 ½ years, retiring in 1987. Jim and Lew moved back home to Wayne County at that time and made their home in Bicknell. He served on the Bicknell Town Council for 15 years. He was a member of the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and served as the Commander for a term. He loved the mountains and scenic beauties of Wayne County. He enjoyed going out on his four-wheeler. Jim loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of Bicknell; children: Janeen and Robert Matheny of Piscataway, New Jersey; Joni and Herb Schoepf of Salt Lake City; James Riley Jr. and LaDawn Stephenson of St. George; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister: Angus Roe and Allene Stephenson, Teasdale; Wm. Alvin and Ruth Stephenson, Vernal; Sherma and LaMar Albrecht, West Valley City. He was preceded in death by his father, Riley Stephenson; his mother, Burl Potter Stephenson Bell Bates Tanner; and a brother, Robert Burlyn Stephenson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, Friday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. and at the Thurber Ward Chapel Saturday from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
