May 26, 1949 — September 1, 2009

Layton, Ut/Lyman, Ut - Our kind and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Janet Sorensen Williamson, age 60, returned home September 1, 2009 in Layton, Utah. Janet was born May 26, 1949 in Salina, Utah, a daughter of Fremon J and Twila Dell Nelson Sorensen. She was the baby of four children born into a happy and well-respected family in Lyman, Utah. She loved and respected her older brothers and sister and the valuable part that they played in her life. She grew up in Lyman, attended the local Wayne County Schools and graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1967. She later attended Brigham Young University in Provo. Janet married her sweetheart, Ray Bert Williamson, March 21, 1970 in Lyman, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple December 14, 1974. Ray died July 18, 1982. Janet was an active member of the LDS Church, holding many different callings. She compiled her family history and was a genealogist. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for many years. Janet loved playing the piano, crocheting and playing bingo and cards with her family and many friends. Janet and Ray enjoyed square dancing together. She loved attending all of the numerous sporting events for her nieces and nephews. She loved to watch Brayden play football and wrestle and loved and always wanted to listen to Dallas sing and Shawn play his guitar. Despite her many health challenges, she enjoyed being a wife, a mother and a grandmother. She always had a happy smile and a big hug for everyone she met. She will be missed by her many friends and family here, but we know she has been greeted by and is rejoicing with her many friends and family on the other side. Janet is survived by her daughter, Raelyn and Shawn Shaffer of Layton; two grandsons: Dallas Shaffer and Brayden Shaffer, both of Layton; her brothers and sister: Verdell and Diane Sorensen of Salt Lake City; Karen and LaMont Ellett of Loa; Gilbert J and Deanna Sorensen of Salt Lake City; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her parents; a baby sister, Carolyn Sorensen and a grandson, Ashton “Faith” Shaffer. Finally, an extra special thanks to the staff and friends at County Pines, Dr. Richter, Dr. Ericksen and Dr. Taylor, along with many home aides, for attending to Janet so faithfully. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning from11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services.
