Jay Spencer

Aurora, Utah - Austin Jay Spencer, age 94, of Aurora, passed away October 3, 2004 in Richfield, Utah due to complications incident to age. He was born June 25, 1910 in Colonia Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico a son of Austin Jabez and Hannah Elizabeth Price Spencer. His family left Mexico when he was two years old and after a time settled in Aurora, Utah. Jay graduated from North Sevier High School and married his sweetheart, Mary Emma Pierce, September 16, 1929 in Aurora, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, June 28, 1945. They had five children, Betty Lou, LaRue, Donnell, JoAnn and Larry. Jay was a high priest in the LDS Church and had many callings in the church. He was also active in civic organizations. Jay had a mechanical inclination and worked at many jobs - - helping build roads, railroad engine mechanic, airplane mechanic - - before he and Emma moved back to Aurora to build and run his own garage and service station for many years. After his wife Emma, passed away, he married Gladys Robinson McAllister and together they served a mission in Tonga. Years later, Gladys passed away. After a time, Jay then married Florence Dennett Davis. She also preceded him in death. Jay is survived by his children: Betty Lou Nielson of Bountiful, LaRue and Lexie Spencer of West Valley City; Donnell and Carolyn Spencer, JoAnn and Darrell (Mac) McCoy, Larry Jay and Marie Spencer, all of Richfield; 20 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren 6 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister: Harold Spencer of California; Waldo Spencer of Clearfield, Preston Spencer and Leonard Spencer, both of Ogden, Quinn Spencer of West Jordan and Leona Huntsman Reusch of Manti. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law: Lucy Colby Spencer and her four children; brother and sisters: Hyrum Spencer, Rosalee Swanson, Alta Anderson Cowley Anderson and Dortha Aaron Taylor. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Aurora 2nd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the ward chapel in Aurora Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
