Santaquin, Utah – Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Jean Orlene Goodwin, age 75, of Santaquin, died March 19, 2016 in Provo, Utah. She was born December 17, 1940 in Santa Monica, California, a daughter of Oral Coshell Peterson and Gladys Everlyn Peterson. She grew up in Santa Monica and graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1958.Jean married the love of her life, Donald Lee Goodwin, August 8, 1959 in the Los Angeles, California temple for time and eternity. Jean was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as the Primary Chorister, Primary President, Relief Society President, Stake Girls Camp Committee, Humanitarian Committee Chairman, Seminary Teacher, Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Chorister, and Young Women’s Leader. She attended the Santa Monica Business College for two years. She was also a member of the Girls Athletic Association (GAA). She was very involved in humanitarian service. She sewed many blankets and nightgowns for babies born locally and world-wide. One of her nightgowns was seen being worn by a baby in Africa during an American Idol special. Jean loved quilting and made many quilts for her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. These quilts will be treasured for many years to come. She also enjoyed sewing and many of her children remember waking up to the sound of the sewing machine in the mornings. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, family history, and crafts. Jean loved the gospel, her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would always say that all she wanted for her birthday or Christmas was to be surrounded by her family. She was a selfless, loving woman, who was a wonderful example to us all. She will be greatly missed. Jean is survived by her husband, Donald, of Santaquin; her eight children: Amy and Clay Starke of Forest Grove, OR, Kenneth and Nona Goodwin of Monroe, WA, Tamara Goodwin of Santaquin, UT, Kathleen Goodwin of Spanish Fork, UT, Michael and Dawn Goodwin of Snohomish, WA, Chad and Diane Goodwin of Loa, UT, Suzanne and Elmer Van Beek of Santaquin, UT, and Kimberly and Jacob Blackinton of Bedford, TX; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Beverly Hughes of Everett, WA, Irene Bushman of Herriman, UT, and Claudia Mann of Orem, UT; sisters-in-law: Penny Morris of Logan, UT; and Carol Peterson of Santa Monica, CA; and an aunt: Alene Walker of Panorama City, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Melvin Peterson; and a grandson, Edward Alma Lee Goodwin. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Santaquin 10th LDS Ward Chapel, 213 South 580 East in Santaquin, where friends may call for viewing on Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM prior to the services. Burial will be on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 12:00 Noon in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
