Jerold Gates Shields

Sandy, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend Jerold Gates Shields returned home to our loving Heavenly Father on August 22, 2015, in Sandy, Utah. Jerold was born on December 1, 1935 in Salina, Utah the son of Ellaroy and Hilda Gates Shields. He grew up in Salina and graduated from North Sevier High School with the class of 1954. He married Mary Evelyn Rasmussen on October 7, 1955 in the Manti LDS Temple , in Manti, Utah, and they've spent many happy years together since. Jerold was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in numerous callings in the church. He loved horses and was a Member of the Salina Riding Club. He also served in many positions within the Boy Scouts of America. Jerold lived for service. If someone called for help he was there before the phone hung up. He loved people. He was a hard worker who always gave 110%. He was considered one of the top three grader operators in the state of Utah. He always said "If you can't do it decent, don't do it at all!" He liked to garden, and he loved to share his produce with others. He loved hunting and fishing, but his favorite pastime was working with wood. He could turn a piece of wood into a masterpiece. He enjoyed working with his hands, but more than anything he loved his family. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Shields of Sandy; his children: Stewart Shields of Henderson, Nevada; M'Shelle and Brett Shaw of Salina; Jeffrey Shields of Sandy; Patrick and Annie Shields of Sandy; a brother LeRoy and Hayda Shields of Salina; 12 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his sister and brother-in- law Norma and Kay Nielson ; his brother and sister-in-law Howard and Wynonna Shields; his parents-in-law Maurice and Therrsa Rasmussen; his granddaughter Amelia Faye Shields. Funeral services will be held at 12 NOON on Saturday, August 29 in the Crescent Ridge LDS Stake Center, 1265 E 11000 South, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call for viewing at the Stake Center from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. prior to services. Burial will be the same day at 5:00 P.M. in the Pioneer Cemetery, 900 North Quarry Road in Salina, Utah. Services are under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, and Salina.
