Aurora, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jerold Nelson Johnson, age 74, died January 20, 2010 at his home in Aurora, after a struggle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife and four children. He was born May 29, 1935 in Salina, Utah, a son of Willard Lloyd and Melva Nelson Johnson. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1953. Jerold attended College of Southern Utah in Cedar City and BYU. He served an LDS Mission to New Zealand from 1956-58. He married Billie Louella Sorensen December 18, 1958 in the Manti LDS Temple. They have enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. Jerold was very active in the LDS Church, serving as a Stake Missionary and on the Salina Stake High Council. He served as Salina Utah Stake President for 9 years and as mission president in the Australia Perth Mission from 1983-86, and as the Patriarch for the Salina Utah Stake. Jerold served as FFA State President, State Young Farmers and Ranchers President, Sevier County Farm Bureau President, Utah State Farm Bureau Vice President, Sevier County School Board President, and the Utah State School Board President. He also served on the Snow College Board of Trustees, the Regional Board of Directors for Zions Bank, on the Sevier Valley Hospital Governing Board, on the Six County Economic Development Board and was currently serving on the Aurora City Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his children and grandchildren and all of their sports and activities. Jerold loved spending time at the ranch and cabin, being with our Mom and attending his meetings. He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Lou, of Aurora; children: Jerold Jr. and Deborah Johnson of Ashburn, Virginia; Jackie and Bart Reynolds of Aurora; Gordon S. and Angela Johnson of Salina; Cami Lee and Kline Esplin of Mt. Carmel; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother: W. Burke Johnson of Aurora. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
