Joan H. Jensen

Torrey, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Luva Joan Hiskey Jensen, age 86, died January 2, 2014 in Loa, Utah. She was born December 3, 1927 in Teasdale, Utah, a daughter of Joseph Benjamin and Luva Forsyth Hiskey. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1946. She attended the Branch Agriculture College in Cedar City for one year. Joan married Talmage M. Jensen, December 14, 1948 in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Torrey, where they raised their two boys. Talmage died May 29, 1991. Joan worked for Wayne School District as the School Lunch Supervisor for 32 years. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Primary, Young Women's Program, Relief Society, Sunday School and Family History in both the Stake and the Ward. She was a member of the DUP and the Farm Bureau. She helped with many Torrey and Teasdale Town activities and fund raisers. Each of her children and grandchildren have received treasured handmade quilts and doilies from Joan. She was most noted for her cooking and baking talents, making pies, rolls and bread. She enjoyed fishing and gardening and being in the outdoors and spending time with her husband and sons, timbering, fishing and picnicking. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Serenity Springs Assisted Living in Loa, for their tender care of our dear Mom. Joan is survived by her two sons and their wives: Richard and Teona Jensen, Wesley and Corinne Jensen, all of Torrey; grandchildren: Ryan Jensen, Brandon and Marie Jensen, Teona Ann Jensen, Sasha Jensen, Ashlee and Whitney Lyman, Aaron and Carley Rae Jensen; great-grandchildren: Talmage Jensen, Laine Jensen, Sawyer Jensen, Derek Lyman and Addison Nicole Lyman; sister and brothers: RenaBell Davis of Spanish Fork; Harold and Mona E. Hiskey of Cedar City; Michael and Mary Ann Hiskey of Spanish Fork; and Vera Hiskey of Teasdale. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers: Austin Hiskey and Boyd Hiskey. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Torrey LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Thursday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Torrey Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
