Aurora, Utah - Our kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Joan Martin Curtis, age 71, of Aurora, died September 10, 2012 in Provo, Utah, very suddenly and unexpectedly. She was born April 22, 1941 in Salina, Utah, a daughter of Josiah Allen and Muriel Sorenson Martin. She married Brooks Curtis, October 4, 1958 in the Manti LDS Temple. She was active in the LDS Church, serving as Primary President, Young Women’s President, in the Relief Society Presidency, a teacher in all capacities, choir pianist and a visiting teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed camping, handiwork, horse riding, piano, ceramics and holiday decorating. Joan was a very talented and lovely lady. She played the piano for many, many funerals and weddings in the North Sevier area. Our little mom was never a world traveler, but her music reached all nations through her gift of teaching music to others. She is survived by her husband, Brooks, of Aurora; children: Allen and Natalie Curtis of Salt Lake City; Leisa Curtis of Richfield; Brooke Curtis of Phoenix, Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Karma Lee Beck of Centerfield; a sister-in-law, Mary Bastian of Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Tamra Johnson; two brothers, Dr. Allen Brent and Ann Martin and Buddy Bastian. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, located at 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
