John D. Nelson

John Duane Nelson, age 84, of West Valley City, passed away July 21, 2016 in Richfield. He was born March 18, 1932 in Salina, a son of Duane Miller and Naomi Horne Nelson. He graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1950. He attended the University of Utah and the Utah Technical College in Salt Lake City. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army and the Utah National Guard and then pursued his career as a machinist. John was a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in the mountains and waters of Utah, Alaska and Texas. He is survived by his brother, Magnus C. "Mac" and Marilyn H. Nelson of St. George; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Naomi Nelson and a sister, Margaret N. Manning. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 29, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Richfield City Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
