John Michael Cox

February 9, 1957 — July 7, 2024

Aurora, Utah - Our kind and persevering son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to all John Michael Cox, age 67, passed away at home in Aurora, Utah July 7, 2024. He was born February 9, 1957, to John Lynn Cox and Marilyn Miles (Midson) Cox in Inglewood, California. He grew up in Southern California where he enjoyed the young, wild and carefree lifestyle and in 1976 he moved to Salina, Utah after he had graduated from Redondo Union High School.

Michael enjoyed being active growing up in California. He was always willing to try anything once, especially if a bit of danger was involved. He had experiences ranging from riding a unicycle to body surfing in the ocean. As he got older fixing and riding motorcycles quickly became a hobby of his. Unfortunately, Michael was in a motorcycle accident and sadly lost part of his leg. That did not slow him or his adventurous spirit down one bit though.

Michael was best known around his community for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. If they weren’t already his friend before getting together, they sure would be afterwards. His calm, kind nature and mountain man instincts helped in his serious love and interest of snakes and reptiles, as well as all other types of animals whether they had fangs, fur, feathers, scales or tails, they were all his “little buddy” at the end of the day.

He will also be remembered as being a hard worker. He spent many years helping out at Producers Livestock Auction, with people and an atmosphere which he loved so much. He also took any opportunity to break a sweat out helping his farming neighbors, Tim and Jake Bastian. When he wasn’t out working in the community he was at home, helping his mom with yard work or chores. He had mentioned quite a bit that he felt he was born in the wrong

generation and that he should have been born during the Old Western times, and anybody who knew Michael personally would agree with that.

He was curious about many different areas of interest and self-taught himself a lot of useful skills. Michael could be considered a jack of all trades, he loved to spend time tinkering on his Jeep. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed telling his stories of adventures from when he was younger, fishing and camping trips and the shocking tales about his snake catching.

Michael had never married or had children of his own and is survived by his Mom Marilyn M. Cox, Brother David W. Cox, Sister Cynthia F. Cox Mulford, aunts, uncles, multiple cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dad John L. Cox, brother Ronald T. Cox, Uncle Richard L. Midson and Uncle Randy B. Midson.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Aurora 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services.

Burial will take place at a later date under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
