John T. Hetrick

October 26, 1950 — December 29, 2011

Taylorsville, Utah - John Thomas Hetrick, age 61, passed away on December 29, 2011 in Sevier County, Utah. He was born October 26, 1950 in Newberry, Michigan, a son of Gerald Kenneth and Louise Pauline Robinson Hetrick. His mother, Louise, later married Raymond Mattson. He moved west to Casper, Wyoming and met the love of life, Molly Anderson. With her, he ultimately settled in Utah. John was a jack-of-all trades, who was once a deputy sheriff, ran his own business, and most recently and for the past ten years, worked for Costco. He enjoyed camping and 4-wheeling in the Uintas, cooking enough to food feed an army, photographing EVERY stage of the backyard peach trees EVERY summer, assigning nicknames, inventing his own language, the cheesiest westerns, and making people laugh. The final 30 years of John’s journey taught him the power of a family, to appreciate the traits we love about each other and to embrace the quirks and the differences. A powerful journey to watch one man take! John is survived by Molly, and their children: Janell, Dawn, Bryan, Cathleen, Elizabeth, Lisa, Carrie, Todd and Jeremy. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; and Carol, “the greatest mother-in-law” he ever had; a brother, Rodney; and sisters Barbara and Cindy; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Hetrick, Louise and Raymond Mattson; and brothers, Butch and Greg. We will miss his cakes and brownies, his BBQ sauce, camp breakfasts, funny voices and butting in on games he at first refused to play. Most of all, we will miss his laughter and showing those he loved the places and things he loved, with such enthusiasm! Out of respect for John’s wishes, there will be no services held.
