Joseph John Deaton

January 18, 1927 — February 24, 2017

Salina, Utah - I’m Joseph John Deaton. After much resistance and hesitation, I decided to return to my Heavenly Father on February 24, 2017 because after 90 years, things just wear out. I was born on January 18,1927 to John and Jennette (Harding) Deaton in Salina, Utah. I had two older sisters, Wilmoth Nielson and Vivian Mecham who left before me. My younger sister, Leween Allred still lives in Salina. We grew up in a home one mile south of Salina. After I graduated from North Sevier High School I joined the Army reaching the rank of Sergeant and served in Korea. Upon returning home, I caught the eye of my now beautiful wife, Doris Elaine Olsen, she lived in Axtell. We were married on June 8, 1951. I worked construction for the State Road as a shovel operator until 1960 at which time we purchased the Day and Nite Cafe and operated it together for 36 ½ years and closed the doors in 1997. We have two sons, Ricky J. Deaton, he married Carol Ludlow (from Nephi). They have a son Tanner John who married Lauren (Gray) and a daughter RiKelle who married Cody Montgomery. Our other son Jerry Lee Deaton married Leisa Mason (from Aurora). They have a son Dustin who married Jessamyn (Hopper), a daughter Ashley who married Tyler Okerlund and a son Brandt who married Becky (LeeMaster). Between my five grandchildren, I have fourteen great grandchildren. On July 29, 2006, I took my lovely wife to the Manti Temple to be sealed as an eternal family. Now I return to my heavenly home. You may meet my family at my viewing on Tuesday February 28th from 6:00-8:00 and Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 at Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina. My funeral services will be held at 11:00 at the Salina Creek LDS Ward Chapel at 87 South 100 East, in Salina, on Wednesday March 1, 2017 with the interment at the Salina East Side Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard. Until we meet again, thank you for your kindness and friendship.
