Salt Lake City, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Karen Raenon Braithwaite Horn, age 83, died May 20, 2017 in Centerfield, Utah. She was born December 2, 1933 in Salina, Utah, a daughter of Byron Claude and Ruth Curtis Braithwaite. She grew up in Manti and graduated from Manti High School, Class of 1952. She married Dewey Bach Petersen, November 9, 1949 in Manti. They had five children and later divorced. She then married Lloyd Vaughan of Oklahoma and they had one son. They later divorced. She then married Robert Horn in 1975 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They made their home in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Robert died in 1982. After Robert's death, Karen moved back to Salt Lake City and received her realtor's license in 1986. She became a certified apartment manager. She managed large apartment complexes for over 15 years. She was awarded Midvale Business Woman of the year in 1990. She retired in 1990. Karen held many church callings as a member of the LDS Church. In 1999 she was called to serve a mission to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mission. She served 12 months as the mission secretary and the last six months as a proselyting missionary. She had much success as a missionary and received much joy and happiness while serving. Karen always talked of her friends, family and loved ones from Manti, Salt Lake and Oklahoma. Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Emma Petersen, Jerry James and Tammy Petersen, Tyler Petersen, Jason (Tiffini Johnston) Vaughn, all of Salt Lake City; Dewey Todd and NoraAnn Petersen of Gunnison; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Verna B. Garrett of Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by a son, William Brent Petersen; her parents, Byron Claude and Ruth Curtis Braithwaite; and a sister, Joann B. Wegkamp. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Manti City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
