Karen Jean Matheson

July 28, 1943 — July 1, 2015

Salina, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Karen Jean Kerr Matheson, age71, of Salina, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2015 in Gunnison, Utah. She was born July 28, 1943 in Hawthorne, Nevada, a daughter of Milo Lealand and Geraldine Spain Kerr. She graduated from Springville High School, Class of 1961. She went to nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, a job she loved and enjoyed doing. She married Donald Rae Matheson, May 18,1963 and they were later divorced. Karen worked at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo and at Northridge Hospital in California in the NICU for over 40 years. The highlight of her career, was taking care of her twin grandchildren in the NICU at Northridge, when they were born premature. She enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, gardening and watching movies. She was a member of the LDS Church. Karen is survived by her four sons: Daryl and Bonnie Matheson of Menifee, California; Richard and Jacklyn Matheson, and David Matheson, all of Willis, Texas; Randy and Katina Matheson of Murrieta, California; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Sandy Kerr of Lake Havasu, Arizona; her good friend, Maxine Monroe of Salina; and her dog, Stella Rose. She was preceded in death by her father, Milo Kerr; and her mother, Geraldine Thorn. At her request, her remains have been cremated and memorial services and burial will take place in the fall under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
