Karl Francis Wayland

Karl Francis Wayland, age 70, passed away August 13, 2014 in Richfield, after a brave and valiant battle with cancer. He was born September 11, 1943 in Richfield, a son of Walter Hogan and Myrna Kirby Wayland. He graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1961 and from College of Southern Utah in 1968. He attended Utah State University for three years, doing graduate studies. Karl worked at many different occupations, including Professor of Science at Colorado Northwestern Community College, as a Bee Keeper, Church Physical Facilities Maintenance for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and trapping in Alaska. Karl married Irene Cooper, September 9, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His greatest joy was to be with his wife, children and 24 beautiful grandchildren. Karl loved to fish, hike and camp with his family. They have lived in Utah, Colorado and Alaska. Karl was devoted to his Heavenly Father and served faithfully throughout his life. He served a full time mission to the East Central States Mission 1962-64, and served in numerous callings throughout his life. He is survived by his caring and loving wife, Irene; children: Melinda and Newell Chappell of Phoenix, Arizona; Wendie and Adam Greathouse of Wasilla, Alaska; Ryan and Courtney Wayland of LaGrange, Kentucky; Nathan and Erin Wayland of Twin Bridges, Montana; Marcus and Tara Wayland of St. Peters, Missouri; Travis and Lori Wayland of Farmington, Utah; Veneita and Bryan Watt of Richfield; 12 beautiful granddaughters and twelve handsome grandsons; siblings: Carvel and Elaine Wayland of Richfield; Bruce and Shirley Ann Wayland of Bryce Canyon, Utah; Janet and Dee Lynn Fautin of Marysvale, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Myrna Wayland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 12 Noon in the Richfield 11th LDS Ward Chapel, 985 South 400 West in Richfield. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
