Keith Johnson

Redmond, Utah - Our beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend, Varlen Keith Johnson, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Redmond, Utah, after a heroic battle with cancer. Keith was born on May 6, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas, to Varlen F. and Joann Foy Johnson. Keith lived his younger child hood in Redmond. He moved to Bridgeland when he was 9 years old. He attended Roosevelt Elementary, and Roosevelt Jr. High where he was on the honor role every year. After junior high he moved to Thousand Oaks, California, where he received his High School Diploma from New Bury Park High School. In 1970 he joined the US Coast Guard where he served for 7 years. Keith received many prestigious awards including: Gunner's Mate 1st Class, Expert Rifle Shot, Expert Pistol Shot, 1st Class Good Conduct, and Unit Commendation Medals. After completing his service in the US Coast Guard Keith moved back to the area he loved, beautiful Redmond. He married Sandra L. DuBois, but they later divorced. He was blessed with 5 children, Chrissy, Sam, Aaron, Jared, and Michael. Keith was employed with United Parcel Service for 28 years. During this time he served as a Teamster Representative for the Union. He was also very involved with the Salina Fire Department, the Jaycees, and the Redmond American Legion. Keith was so giving of his time, and he put his whole heart and soul into everything he did. Keith's passions were hunting, fishing, scuba diving, golfing, western movies, and most of all his 12 grandkids. He was very loyal to his family and friends, and loved to spend time with all of them. Keith will be very missed by the community, family, and friends. Keith is survived by his mother Joann Foy Johnson; his children: Chrissy and Jeremy Woods of Mesquite, Nevada; Aaron and Bree Poulson of Payson; Jared and Danielle Johnson of Salina; Michael G. Johnson of Redmond; his 12 grandchildren; his brother Bruce N. Johnson of Golden Valley, Arizona. Keith was preceded in death by his father Varlen F. Johnson; his son Jason Sam Johnson; his grandparents: John P. and Laverda Johnson; Laurence V. and Jane Foy; his uncle Kent "Sam" Johnson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Febuary 22, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Redmond 1st LDS Ward Chapel, at 310 West 100 North, Redmond, Utah. friends may call for viewing at the Redmond LDS Ward Chapel, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services. Burial with military honors by the Redmond American Legion Post 118, and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Redmond Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
