Richfield, Utah - Keith R. Hooper Sr. age 86, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at his home in Richfield due to complications from a fall earlier and a short battle with cancer. He was born July 21, 1923 in Annabella, Utah, a son of William R and Vida May Brown Hooper, the first of six children. The family owned a farm and Keith learned to work hard at an early age, something he continued to do throughout his entire life. He graduated from South Sevier High School attended one year at Utah State University. Shortly after that he married Mary Christensen from Venice, May 12, 1942 for time and all eternity in the Manti LDS Temple. He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. After the war ended, he returned to Annabella and worked as a farmer. He later became a Highway Patrolman, a position he held from 1957 to 1979 when he retired as a Lieutenant. Keith held many positions in the LDS Church, including Bishop, Bishop’s Counselor, High Councilman and a temple ordinance worked for many years. He and Mary served an LDS mission to Massachussetts. Mary passed away on June 8, 1996. On June 13, 1998 he married Roberta “Bobbie” Taylor Christensen, in the Manti LDS Temple. They served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple also, and filled a mission to Fresno, California in 2000. Keith always raised a good garden and delighted in sharing his produce with friends and neighbors. He was a great example and will be missed by many. He and his family built a cabin on Cove Mountain and he enjoyed many happy hours there in his later years, where he loved to fish on Big Lake and just relax with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of Richfield; children: Anne and Keith Stanworth of Cedar City; Keith R Jr. and Shirley Hooper of Duchesne; Galen Roy and Kathy Hooper of Springville; Laurel Hooper of Salt Lake City; Ione Roth of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Carma and Kerry Steck of Ephraim; a foster daughter, Lula Joy and Darryl Billy of Gallup, New Mexico; step-children: Brent and Kathy Ogden of Grand Junction, Colorado; Janae and Jeff Bell of Payson; Bryce and Audrey Ogden of St. George; Lesli and Greg Hughes of West Jordan; Dixie and Don Harris of Redmond, Washington; 31 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 19 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; brother and sister: Richard and Beverly Hooper of Roy, Utah; Adelia and DeVon Poulson of Washington, Utah. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: William Fred Hooper, Samuel Hooper and Evelyn Carter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Richfield East LDS Stake Center, 805 North 500 East in Richfield. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Stake Center, Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the the Utah Honor Guard, the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Highway Patrol Honor Guard will be in the Annabella Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
