Ken Scovil

November 26, 1941 — December 17, 2015

Salina, Utah - Kenneth Vern Scovil, age 74, of Salina, retired to greener pastures December 17, 2015, in Richfield, Utah. He was born November 26, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Vern Lewis and Dorene Astle Scovil. He graduated from Granger High School, Class of 1960. He then went on to receive his Associate Degree in Accounting. Ken became an iconic character of Salina with his beard and favorite hat while frequenting Mom’s Café and the auction. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, fishing, Louis L’Amour novels, and was known for teasing anyone he came in contact with. Ken knew how many people watched out for him in the community and appreciated it, always telling stories of who did something kind for him or who ‘sassed back.’ Ken was a crossing guard in the community for 2 years, never missing a day of work, even at 72! Ken loved the kids he encountered each day, and they brought a smile to his face, even if it couldn’t be seen through his beard. He was a member of the LDS Church and the Riding Club. Ken is survived by his two sisters and one brother: Patsy Baker of Great Falls, Montana; Linda Riddle and Neil (Julie) Scovil, both of Salt Lake City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Vern and Dorene Scovil; two brothers: Jack Scovil and Jerry Scovil. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
